The Islamic State, or by their arabic acronymn Daesh, is a pan-islamist, islamofascist terrorist organisation which formed from AQI, or Al-Qaeda in Iraq. The Islamic State was once part of Al-Qaeda (led by Osama Bin Laden, then Ayman al-Zawahiri, but broke away in 2013 when Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi declared that he is taking control of all Al-Qaeda allied forces in Syria and Iraq, declaring the Islamic State's independence and also known as the Islamic State of Iraq. His group expanded into Syria becoming the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, also more commonly known as ISIS. Amidst the Syrian Civil War which was on-going since 2011, ISIS discovered a power vaccum in Syrian forces and began to gain territory in Syria and later Iraq. In the summer of 2014, ISIS launches a state-like military invasion into Iraq, and in days they controlled a third of all Iraqi territory and a massive part of Syria. That summer, Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi declared a Caliphate, making the Islamic State it's very own independent 'country'. Unlike Al-Qaeda, which had mostly been just a non-state actor, ISIS governed actual territory in two oil rich nations. Tragically, they did not stop in just Iraq and Syria, they expanded into Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Afghanistan and then even the Philippines. At their height, they controlled territory the size of the United Kingdom with a total population of around 12 million people. They had their very own currency, passports, customs, education, laws, even their own national anthem. They governed under a strict interpretation of Islamic Sharia law. In 2015, they even began to launch spectacular terrorist attacks abroad. Kuwait, Egypt, Tunisia, France, even England and the United States. They launched genocides against minorities such as Yazidis, Libyan Christians, Shia Muslims, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and even more sex slaves. As of now, the Islamic state has killed around 200K+ people. In 2017, the Islamic State lost their most important city which was Mosul, then not long after their Capital City Raqqa and in 2019 their entire Caliphate was abolished and they mostly didn't exist, and Baghdadi was killed in a US raid. However, in 2024 ISIS launched their first major attack in years in Moscow, Russia at a concert hall. They began to expand yet again, in the Sahel region in Africa, Afghanistan, even Syria. Even on new years day of 2025, in New Orleans there was an ISIS inspired terrorist attack, and, as of writing this another one caused by ISIS in Afghanistan against a Chinese National, potentially sparking China to fully join in the ongoing Global War on Terrorism.  ISIS is far from capitulation, and they are more than just a terrorist group, they are militants fighting for global domination, as their ideology is to revive the ancient Caliphates and expand it to encompass all Muslims and to create a global, world-wide Caliphate. TL;DR, they want to take over the world.

In conclusion, the Islamic State/Daesh, is one of the biggest threats of the 21st century and they are 100% making some form of a comeback, and it doesn't look good. We should spread awareness about what extreme ideologies and violence causes to society and do everything in our power to stop it.
